DIY {Pen Bouquet}

What better way to start school with a beautiful bouquet on your desk/counter everyday, that's also super practical?  College student, teacher, mom who constantly needs a pen to sign last minute permission slips but can never find one, or anyone who needs a pen really..ever... Anyway, basically everyone needs a pen bouquet, and they're so inexpensive!

What you need:
pack of pens (I got a pack of 10 from Target for $1!)
faux flowers (I found it's cheaper to get a bouquet but you can get anything you want, this is where it can get expensive! This bouquet was $16 but I used a 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby for it!)
floral tape (comes with 2 rolls ~ $3)
vase/container (I found this amazing one for $1 at a thrift store, score!)
scissors

Cut the flowers leaving 2-3in. of stem. I couldn't completely cut the stems with the scissors, just the outer part, but the wire broke by just bending it.

You may choose to skip this part, but it's a good way to use all your pens, but I cut the stems into two, making two sets of leaves, leaving 2-3in. below. If you do this, you'll also want to trim the stem above the leaves to 1/2-1in. I find it easier to wrap the end, making sure it won't be poking anyone.

Here you can see how I've wrapped the tape above and below the leaves, the flower parts are easier, only one end of the stem to worry about!

*Note: If you've never used floral tape, it isn't sticky until you start working with it, the adhesive...activates?...with the heat from your fingers. And beware, I had a bit of residue left on my fingers so you may wanna throw on some latex gloves or something.

Make sure you wrap the ends well, you don't want them poking through the tape!

Four of the flowers I made even with the pen, the last I extended a little so it would stick up taller in the vase.

Final product!

Blue Mountain Beach

We're so lucky to live close to the beach, it's crazy to think we use to get so excited to go (still do actually) but there was always a 10 hour drive between us and the white sands of The Gulf. Now there's less than 2.

Last Friday we took off to our favorite beach, and I got to break out some of my Lilly for Target for the first time! I loved every second of it, the beach, the Lilly, the tan, everything.

Yoga mat

During my "brief" time away from here, I started doing some yoga! We all know I hate running and such, but this, is enjoyable. It's relaxing and energizing all at the same time, and it's not just stretching, which is kind of what I thought about it before I started. There was this one work out that made my upper abs so sore I thought something was wrong with me. That's how long it's been since I've done a core workout. Yeah, I thought I was dying. But I digress.

I'm seriously encouraging you to start! You honestly don't need a single thing, the first several times I did it, I did it in my pajamas and on the fluffy rug in my bedroom, you only need (if you chose to start this way) is YouTube! I watched the 30 Days of Yoga series by Yoga With Adrienne, and it was awesome! She's great! Takes it seriously but not TOO seriously, she makes you feel right at (home) beginner or not, and beginner I was. Give. It. A. Shot. 30 minutes or less of your day, you can do it. Promise.

We all know, however, that cute workout gear makes getting started much easier, and here are some really cute mats to get you started! I personally have the yellow Lolë one, I love the bright color and the thickness of the mat, but it's totally up to you on how much you spend, you can get some great ones at Target and TJMaxx too!

Do any of you do yoga already? I'd love to hear any tips or tricks you may have!

Freeing My Style

I don't know about y'all, but sometimes I feel like being a hippie. Or just changing things up from my "typical look," which would seem to be the classic "preppy" (I wish I could think of another word but, oh whale) look, with nautical inspo, navy and white stripes, chinos, Lilly, and the list goes on. To be honest, embracing such a different look has widened my outlook on style, made me more adventurous in putting outfits together, and feeling more confident in them because to me, this look is more about freely putting pieces together, whether they "match" or not.

I've put together some of my favorite pieces that are easy to transition with and can easily be incorporated into your closet and every day wear. I personally own a few of these pieces and lemme tell you, that tee and long sleeve thermal (which both come in a myriad of colors) are absolutely to die for. Literally the softest things I've ever put on my body. But really.

Also, in case you didn't see my OOTD post on Instagram yesterday, it's a perfect example of me embracing the Free People lifestyle. Which is where *most* of these pieces are from! (Link to my Insta is in the sidebar! Follow me! :) )

#LillyForTarget (aka The Lilly Lover Hunger Games)

If you were lucky/smart and avoided all the hunger game madness that was the 5 minutes Lilly Pulitzer's collab with Target was available, well played.  I, however, was not so smart. I gave in. I said I wouldn't. I did. And I must say, I'm happy I did, except I still feel like I have "The Lilly Fever," as I like to call it. Still hyped up on the excitement and disappointment of it all.

I was disappointed that I didn't get exactly what I wanted (but that's typical Lilly sale), and in how it all happened. I won't hop on that soapbox though. You're welcome.

As far as excitement goes, I got some pretty great stuff! And thankfully they make children's clothes big enough to fit me. #lifehack Here's what I ended up with!

And after cutting a few things I decided I didn't want...probably should've cut more, but it's just so cute!

Who else shopped the collab and scored some great stuff? War stories also welcome, I'm sure some of y'all have them!
